Essentials
Art I and Art II
- Students will know and apply the elements of and principles of art
- Students will know and apply color theory.
- Students will know and apply perspective drawing.
- Students will know and apply historical/cultural concepts as well as learn
- Students will develop and improve fundamental drawing and observation techniques.
- Students will explore personal self-expression through art journaling
Ceramics I
- Students will create artwork using the following building techniques: pinch, coil, slab, thrown sculpting.
- Student will understand and be able to apply glazes, stains, paints, and underglazes to their ceramics work.
- Students know and apply ceramic art materials, tools, techniques, and processes.
- Students will relate ceramic arts to various historical and cultural traditions
- Students know and apply elements of art and principals of design as it applies to 3D works.
- Students will understand the health and safety issues associated with ceramics.
Ceramics II
- Students will understand and be able to choose and combine building technique/method for the project/s the have designed.
- Students will work on design skills and incorporating the elements, principles and color theory into successful ceramic pieces.
- Students will understand and be able to apply glazes, stains, paints, and underglazes to their ceramic work in advanced level techniques.
- Students will further their knowledge of contemporary and classical ceramics.
- Students will develop their voice using ceramics as a medium.
- Students will understand the health and safety issues associated with ceramics.
Advanced Ceramics
- Students will pursue a cohesive body of work.
- Students will create a research workbook that includes: a daily journal, handouts, syllabus, notes subject matter references, vocabulary, cultural/historical references entries that express their thoughts about their work and ideas and growth.
- Students will understand how elements and principles of design and color theory are integrated into ceramics and include continuing investigations in their work books.
- Students will demonstrate advanced knowledge of glaze chemicals, they will research and develop at least one glaze and fire it.
- Students will learn to constructively critique ceramic ware
- Students will understand the health and safety issues associated with ceramics.
3D Design
- Students will create artwork with the following techniques incorporated: Additive, Subtractive, Manipulative, and varying finishing techniques.
- Students know and apply the elements of art and principals of design.
- Students know and apply 3-demensional materials, tools, techniques and processes.
- Students will understand and be able to use a plan of their project as needed.
- Students will study the history and appreciation of sculpture and sculptors.
Drawing and Painting I & II
- Students will use a variety of drawing and painting media such as acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, pastels, colored pencils, graphite and tempera.
- Students will develop a progression of skills using a variety of drawing and painting techniques such as flat, layered, etc.
- Students will explore and observe a variety of cultural and historical styles.
- Students will develop and create their personal style and original compositions.
- Using art vocabulary, students will analyze and critique artwork, reinforcing the elements and principles of design.
- Students will explore various art genres such as portraiture (life and figure drawing), still life, land/cityscapes, night lighting, and harsh light.
- Students will reinforce their understanding of color mixing skills, including value and intensity.
Printmaking I & II
- Students will explore various printmaking processes such as intaglio, lithography, stencil processes, monoprint, collograph and relief.
- Students will know and understand the history and significance of printmaking, such as changes in technology allowing for mass communication.
- Students will create a multiple colored print that uses registration techniques.
- Students will know and can use basic and advanced printmaking tools effectively and safely.
- Students are able to assess their own work and that of others.
