Scheduling

Current Student Scheduling

Getting Started

You will be provided with a Scheduling Packet by your Advisory Teacher the week of your scheduling window. This packet will contain the following.

  • Schedule Plan Guide

    • WITH AN APPOINTMENT TIME FOR FINAL SCHEDULING

  • Current Transcript

  • A paper copy of classes offered next year

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT LOSE YOUR SCHEDULING PACKET. IT MUST BE BROUGHT WITH YOU TO YOUR SCHEDULING APPOINTMENT TO FINALIZE YOUR SCHEDULE.

Students are required to get math recommendations from their current math teacher. They will finalize the math class you will take next year and sign off before you should attend your scheduling appointment.

commonly asked questions

How many classes to I have to have in my schedule?

Freshman and Sophomores MUST have 8 classes per semester in their schedule. Freshman and Sophomores MAY NOT be teacher aids or have releases in their schedule unless an administrator and counselors make this accommodation.

Juniors and Seniors MUST have 6 classes per semester in their schedules.

Athletes MUST have a minimum of 6 classes per semester in their schedule totaling 3 credits. Keep this in mind if you are considering being a Teacher Aid.

What if I miss my scheduling appointment time?

Make Up days are available but keep in mind that classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis. Missing your scheduling appointment may mean you miss out on a class you wanted.

What if I come to my appointment unprepared?

You will be turned away and rescheduled for a make-up time. Students MUST HAVE their scheduling packet, transcript, and necessary signatures to finalize their schedule.

What if I am a CMU Tech or Career Center student?

CMU Tech and Career Center Students should still make their initial schedule ideal for if they are to be on campus the entire school day. That is a minimum of 6 classes per semester.

You should make a back up schedule accounting for your Mod with core required classes filling the rest of your schedule.

Mod 1 - You will have a release period 3 and 4

Mod 2 - You will have a release period 5 and 6

Mod 3 - You will have a release period 5 and 6

What if I am a CMU Student?

You still need to make a schedule with 6 classes per semester. You will add an additional note on your schedule stating "Potential CMU Student". Additional adjustments will be made to your schedule once counseling receives a copy of your CMU schedule. Once you get your CMU schedule, please screenshot and send to your counselor.

What if I am an Athlete?

There are NCAA requirements as well. You will need to be earning AT LEAST 3 CREDITS per semester. Be cautious being a teacher aid (that's only .25 credits).

Also keep in mind that online classes and Career Center classes DO NOT qualify towards NCAA eliigibility.

You may also consider that you will likely miss afternoon classes like 7th and 8th period. You may want to put classes in those periods that you can afford to miss and make up work easily.

What if I am a STEM student?

STEM students get scheduling priority. You will get the chance to pick your classes before all other students on campus. Be diligent in making sure you are ready for your scheduled appointment to take full advantage of this perk.

In the course catalogue, STEM approved classes to count towards STEM endorsed graduation diplomas are marked. Be sure to look out for these markers on classes you fill your schedule with.

What if I am a PTECH student?

PTECH students are also prioritized with STEM students and get scheduling priority. You will get the chance to pick your classes before all other students on campus. Be diligent in making sure you are ready for your scheduled appointment to take full advantage of this perk.

In the course catalogue, STEM approved classes to count towards STEM endorsed graduation diplomas are marked as well as PTECH approved classes. Be sure to look out for these markers on classes you fill your schedule with.

What if I don't build a schedule or attend any scheduling times?

Fear not! Counselors will build a schedule for you prioritizing your graduation requirement needs. It will be designed to ensure you are successful!

How do releases work?

ONLY Juniors and Seniors may have releases in their schedule with the exception of Career Center and CMU Tech students.

Release periods may ONLY be at the beginning or end of the day. The following scheduled releases are the only approved periods.

Release 1 and 2

Release 7 and 8

Release 1 and 8

How do Teacher Aids work?

Teacher Aids vary by department. Teacher Aids may only be scheduled and approved for Juniors and Seniors. If you are wanting to be a teacher aid, you will need to approach a teacher you will aid for and discuss the requirements, needs, and expectations.

If you both agree to the Teacher Aid scheduling, the teacher, student and parents must sign off for counselors to schedule. Keep in mind being a Teacher Aid is a Pass/Fail grade and only accounts for 0.25 elective credit.

What if I failed a class?

Failed classes MUST be taken again. You will see on your transcript, when a class is failed, you do not receive the credit. Credits are outlined and must be earned to be eligible to graduate. If you have additional graduation requirement questions, check out the "Graduation Requirements" tab for more information.

What if I want to do Summer School or Credit Recovery?

When building your schedule, you MUST add the class you failed regardless if you plan to recover with Edmentum or Summer School. We like to have these classes built into your schedule just in case you can't recover the credit in these alternative options. If you recover the credit, you counselor will adjust your schedule.
